  • UPDATE RE: CORONAVIRUS (COVID_19) RESPONSE

    WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW NOW:

     

    The health and safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority. We are adhering to the guidance provided by the New Jersey Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). With information changing frequently, we believe it is important to stay informed and prepared. We will update this page as new and relevant information becomes available.

    CURRENT STATUS: All Pitman schools are currently closed.  On March 16, 2020, Governor Murphy issued Executive Order #104, in which all New Jersey public schools would remain closed as long the Order remains in effect.  Any changes to this status will be announced to families and staff in advance.

    Virtual instruction days are in effect at this time.  Contact your child's principal by email/phone if you have any questions or concerns; although they may be working remotely, they have access to email and voicemail, and will respond ASAP.  Specific concerns regarding a particular class should be addressed initially to your child's teacher via email.

    Athletics: The Tri County Conference has canceled all contests,
    up to and including April 20, 2020 with a meeting to re-evaluate the situation at that time.  The NJ State Interscholastic Athletics Association has an FAQ document available that may be helpful to you.

    Field trips: All school trips during the announced closure are cancelled/postponed (potential new dates TBD). 

    SPECIAL NOTE RE: PHS SENIOR TRIP - Disney World recently announced a closure due to the COVID-19 outbreak.  In recent communication with the tour company, the district is reviewing options for postponing the senior trip until mid-May or later; details have been sent to our PHS seniors and their families. The tour company continues to monitor CDC Travel Advisories and information from local health departments. We will share any additional information as soon as we have it. 

    Long-term school closure: Per recommendations from the New Jersey Department of Health and the New Jersey Department of Education, school districts have implemented  contingency plans in the event we need to close for an extended period of time. These plans are posted on the district website under the "Families" tab.

    Make-up assignments: If your child is unable to participate in virtual learning due to illness, please notify your child’s teacher.  They will continue to provide assignments and opportunities for learning, but may make modifications or changes to deadlines.

    School Cleaning: Since the closure of schools, our custodial staff has worked diligently to mitigate the spread of germs with enhanced  cleaning routines in all schools. They are focused on disinfecting surfaces, common areas, door handles and restrooms.  As building access is restricted, maintenance cleaning will be performed in certain areas during an extended closing in preparation for a return to school.

    School events: For the duration of the school closure, student activities, clubs, and events will suspend operations and/or postpone/cancel.  If continuation of selected activities can be done virtually, student participation may be re-evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

    School buildings and grounds: Public access to school grounds and buildings is restricted during the closure.  Access by district staff is very limited, and only by essential personnel on an as-needed basis; remote work protocols are in place for district employees as applicable.  Per recommendation, and out of an abundance of caution, school playground access is restricted and use of playground equipment is prohibited until further notice.

     

    Student Medical Concerns: Please direct specific student medical concerns that may impact learning to the school nurse.

    What can I do to reduce the spread of coronavirus?

     

    The New Jersey Department of Health reminds everyone that the best protection from contracting influenza or coronavirus (COVID-19) is to practice good hygiene. Practicing good hygiene includes the following:

    • Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or into your sleeve, not your hands.
    • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
    • Wash hands often for at least 20 seconds, especially after coughing or sneezing.
    • Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
    • Stay home if you’re sick, especially with a fever, cough or difficulty breathing.
    • Avoid people who are sick.
    • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and objects.

     

    Is it safe to travel?

     

    If you are planning to travel, please refer to the CDC travel advisories for the latest information. Travel Health Notices inform travelers and clinicians about current health issues that impact travelers’ health, like disease outbreaks, special events or gatherings, and natural disasters, in specific international destinations.   • Pitman School District Coronavirus Meal Service Survey

    Due to the school closure, shelf-stable meals (packaged as a school week's supply) will be available for current Pitman families. Meals will be available for pick up at Pitman High School's student parking lot. (PLEASE READ "IMPORTANT PICKUP PROCEDURES" BELOW)

     

    The following survey is to see who wishes to receive this week's 3 day supply of shelf-stable food.

    Breakfast:

    Cereal, fruit/juice & milk

    Pop Tarts, fruit/juice & milk

    Mini bread or muffin & graham crackers
    or yogurt, fruit/juice & milk

    Ham and Cheese croissant, veggie, fruit and milk

    Anytimers pizza Kit, veggie, fruit and milk

    IN ORDER TO INSURE AN ACCURATE COUNT OF MEALS, IT IS IMPORTANT TO  COMPLETE THIS SURVEY.  If you know of someone in need who does not have a computer, encourage them to call 856-589-0369, Extension 6006 and leave a message with their name; their children's names, grade level, and school; which meals (breakfast/lunch/both) they are ordering; and any information re: food allergies.

    Important Pickup Procedures

    Due to mandatory changes/ and recommendations made by CDC, OEM, and DOH late last week the pickup line for meals has been modified. We will no longer be giving cards or taking cards, nor will there be an exchange of food through car windows etc. This is to minimize exposure to our families and our staff therefore the following procedure are now in place.

     

    1. One station will be set up for check in, please have your child's pin ready. If you cannot find your child's pin please bring ID. We will be checking id's now to verify parent/guardians who do not have pin#''s .

     

    2. Once checked in, the meal counts will be given to our staff to prepare your bags.

     

    3. You will be asked if you can open and close your trunk from inside your vehicle. You will be told to pull forward if you are able to open and close, meals will be placed in your trunk at that time. Our staff will not open car doors, open/close trunks etc. We will not touch your vehicle other than to place the food down in the trunk. We must maintain safe distances etc.

     

    If you cannot open and close your trunk from inside your vehicle you will be directed to a table for meal pickup. You will have to then exit your vehicle and retrieve the food bags from that table. The tables are wiped down after EVERY pickup with an approved cleaning agent.

    If you are interested in registering your child for our half day pre-Kindergarten programs for next school year, please visit this link and complete an online pre-registration form (an appointment slot on 3/11/20 or 3/12/2020 will be scheduled for you and your child; you will also receive additional information).

     

    About the Program

     

    The Pitman Public Schools offers half day preschool options for students ages 3 and 4 (2020-21 program is housed at Memorial School):

    • Inclusion classes for 3 years olds (AM session*) and 4 year olds (PM session*) - parent paid tuition programs (2020-21 rates pending BOE approval: $325/month - 5 day program).
    • Self-contained Pre-School program for eligible students with special needs
    • Dual certified teachers (including special education certified)
    • Creative Curriculum program
    • AM childcare option for 4 year olds in the PM program

    * - current schedule: AM = 8:30 - 11:00; PM = 12:30 - 3:00; 2020-21 schedule (tentative pending approval): AM = 8:40 - 11:10; PM = 12:40 - 3:10
