The health and safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority. We are adhering to the guidance provided by the New Jersey Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). With information changing frequently, we believe it is important to stay informed and prepared. We will update this page as new and relevant information becomes available.
CURRENT STATUS: All Pitman schools are currently closed for the balnce of the school year. In mid-March, Governor Murphy issued Executive Order #104, in which all New Jersey public schools would remain closed as long the Order remains in effect. The Governor recently announced that school closures will remain in place for the balance of the 2019-20 school year (last day: June 12, 2020).
Virtual instruction days are in effect at this time. Contact your child's principal by email/phone if you have any questions or concerns; although they may be working remotely, they have access to email and voicemail, and will respond ASAP. Specific concerns regarding a particular class should be addressed initially to your child's teacher via email.
Athletics: The Tri County Conference has canceled the spring sports season in accordance with guidance from the NJ State Interscholastic Athletics Association. No decision regarding preseason training for the Fall 2020 sports season has been released yet.; we have no current updates regarding athletic physicals, although new PHS students should schedule a physical examination with their persoanl physician prior to the new school year. Please visit our website for updates throughout the summer.
Field trips: All school trips during the announced closure are cancelled.
Long-term school closure: Per recommendations from the New Jersey Department of Health and the New Jersey Department of Education, school districts have implemented contingency plans in the event we need to close for an extended period of time. These plans are posted on the district website under the "Families" tab.
Make-up assignments: If your child is unable to participate in virtual learning due to illness, please notify your child’s teacher. They will continue to provide assignments and opportunities for learning, but may make modifications or changes to deadlines.
School Cleaning: Since the closure of schools, our custodial staff has worked diligently to mitigate the spread of germs with enhanced cleaning routines in all schools. They are focused on disinfecting surfaces, common areas, door handles and restrooms. As building access is restricted, maintenance cleaning will be performed in certain areas during an extended closing in preparation for a return to school.
School events: For the duration of the school closure, student activities, clubs, and events will suspend operations and/or postpone/cancel. If continuation of selected activities can be done virtually, student participation may be re-evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
School buildings and grounds: Public access to school grounds and buildings is restricted during the closure. Access by district staff is very limited, and only by essential personnel on an as-needed basis; remote work protocols are in place for district employees as applicable. Per recommendation, and out of an abundance of caution, school playground access is restricted and use of playground equipment is prohibited until further notice. The district will provide updates soon regarding the retrieval of staff and student belongings from school buildings, as well as the safe return of district property to the schools.
Student Medical Concerns: Please direct specific student medical concerns that may impact learning to the school nurse.

Pitman School District Coronavirus Meal Service Survey
Due to the school closure, shelf-stable meals (packaged as a school week's supply) will be available for anyone 18 years of age or younger. Meals will be available for pick up at Pitman High School's student parking lot. (PLEASE READ "IMPORTANT PICKUP PROCEDURES" BELOW)
As of June 12, 2020 the State of New Jersey Department of Agriculture states:
Pitman School District is considered an open site and we can provide meals to individuals 18 years or younger regardless of the School district your child attends.

IN ORDER TO INSURE AN ACCURATE COUNT OF MEALS, IT IS IMPORTANT TO COMPLETE THIS SURVEY. If you know of someone in need who does not have a computer, encourage them to call 856-589-0369, Extension 6006 and leave a message with their name; their children's names, grade level, and school; which meals (breakfast/lunch/both) they are ordering; and any information re: food allergies.

Due to mandatory changes and recommendations made by CDC, OEM, and DOH, the pickup line for meals has been modified. We will no longer be giving cards or taking cards, nor will there be an exchange of food through car windows etc. This is to minimize exposure to our families and our staff therefore the following procedure are now in place.
1. You MUST wear a face mask when you come for meal pickup; especially when you roll down your window to speak with staff and if you need to exit your vehicle to load your meals. Thank you for your cooperation.
2. One station will be set up for check in, please have your child's pin ready. If you cannot find your child's pin please bring ID. We will be checking id's now to verify parent/guardians who do not have pin#''s .
3. Once checked in, the meal counts will be given to our staff to prepare your bags.
4. You will be asked if you can open and close your trunk from inside your vehicle. You will be told to pull forward if you are able to open and close, meals will be placed in your trunk at that time. Our staff will not open car doors, open/close trunks etc. We will not touch your vehicle other than to place the food down in the trunk. We must maintain safe distances, etc.
If you cannot open and close your trunk from inside your vehicle you will be directed to a table for meal pickup. You will have to then exit your vehicle and retrieve the food bags from that table, and please remember you MUST wear a face mask when you exit the vehicle. The tables are wiped down after EVERY pickup with an approved cleaning agent.
